I need a career! But what?

I was interested in becoming a pastry chef but now am doutful. I wanted to do that but I don't want to risk not making ANY money! I am willing to pretty much do anything that contains a 2 year degree (AA) any idea's?

(What to make good money)…

Paramedic takes 1.5 years at most = 50-60K
Nurse takes 2-3 years = 60-90k

Corrections officer =50-70k

i have a little more than two years left until college. and this is the time most people start thinking of their future. i have two main ideas…

one- culinary arts area (food…/entreprenuer/restrateur(sp?)/pastry chef))
two- fashion designer

i'm a creative person. iwhen i was little i was into ballet, orchestra, then band, then painting and art. and i still enjoy art, specifically painting to this day. i just enjoy both so much. and i don't know what to do. i know fashion industry is a hard undustry to succeed in, but i kno i'd enjoy it. and culinary arts, you give all your time to it. i'd open up my own bakery or boutique. help!! any advice? i'm confused.

Career planning is a deliberate process of knowing WHO we are so that we can be sure WHERE we want to go or WHAT we want to be at some defined point in the future. It involves an analysis of career/job options that are new to you. Career analysis is based on accurate, valid and timely information from — reading, interviewing primary resources persons and direct observation of those persons while doing their job.

Here are some sites that can help you plan your career.

Job Hunters Bible – My favorite. I have taught their system to hundreds of people with great results. Richard N. Bolles, America's dean of Career Consultants, heads the company and is also the author of the book, 'What Color Is Your Parachute.' This book should be available in your public library.

pastry chef or clothes designer?

A Pastry chef would be more fun, but a clothes designer might pay more.

I’m 25 and unemployed.

I just quit a job as a pastry chef (went to school for/ graduated).
*some may find that crazy in any economy…but my hair was falling out.
I left b/c I just found that I didn’t like what I was doing. I’ve only had two jobs in pastry (total of 2.5 yrs exp) but I think it is not for me.

Any other work experience has been limited to summer jobs (testing the waters and have some income) but nothing that was ‘possible career material’.

I have an associate in applied science and many hours from community colleges. I’d like to go back to school, but I don’t want to do something that I think I have a career or a job in that I end up not progressing or enjoying.
I have many interests, varied talents and skills, but I have yet to discover my desire.

I’d first like to see if anyone out there is as clueless as I am and how you feel.

Second, anyone out there who was in a situation like this and has discovered themselves? Any advice for the ‘weary traveler’?

Any helpful comments are greatly appreciated.
ANY advice is appreciated.
*side note*…there are aspects of pastry that I like, but again, not enough to pursue as a career. I liked my co-workers at each job the best. That is what kept me there. Other than that, I was bored….BORED.

I really only considered this career b/c my fam made the suggestion.

If you became a pastry chef you obviously liked some aspects of it. Have you considered going into marketing with a food emphasis? That is a hot job right now. Consider maybe becoming a writer with emphasis in cooking. You can write articles for food magazines. Also you could expand your horizons and get a little more training and become a personal chef —that career is becoming very popular as well.

If none of those suggestions interests you then take a few career tests and see where they point too as far as a suggested career and go from there.
